DJ WALTERWALL - Brighton,UK Biography
Walterwall has been a full time lover of the underground electronic music scene since the early rave days of the mid 90's and began his DJ career at the legendary STERNS nightclub on the South Coast of the UK.
Taking early inspiration from watching pioneers such as Carl Cox, Rat Pack and Colin Dale his passion for music soon developed in to him chasing the ultimate dream of being a full time DJ. He began playing out for experience on the middle floor of Sterns and in the clubs of Brighton and before long, through the connections he made while playing, he landed his first residency on the other side of the globe at the infamous “Love” Boat Parties on Sydney Harbor in Australia.
Next along on his journey he found himself living in Vancouver, Canada and after a few months of doing dead end jobs he became friends with a record shop owner who offered him a job working in the store. This was to be a huge turning point in his life. From there he gained residency’s at some of the biggest clubs in the city at that time; Sonar, Celebrities and Purple Onion and started throwing his own ‘after hours parties’ which gained a great following of like minded people, that just wanted to party and were not about who was playing, but solely about the music and the sound system.
Due to circumstances beyond his control and after almost three years living in Vancouver, he found himself catapulted back to the UK and unable to find work that gave him any fulfillment.
For the next three years he worked in commercial clubs in Spain and Andorra playing soulless music to people that did not care, this almost made him give up on DJ’ing but there is another chapter.
As does often happen, someone came into his life who gave him the personal support he needed at the time, so holding strong to his faith in the music, now back home in the UK he worked tirelessly to put himself back on the local scene map in his home town of Brighton. After warming up for Nick Bridges from Bodyrox, Nick then recommended him to Ministry of Sound / Hed Kandi Red Sea and he was offered the job of marketing manager and resident DJ at their world famous venues in Hurghada, Egypt. It was here his passion for the industry was re ignited and he spent three very happy years entertaining the locals and holidaymakers with his energetic DJ sets and made many friends with his personal approach & hospitality of the international guests he booked for the clubs weekly program.
Having to leave Egypt when the troubles began in 2011 he returned to the UK where once again he found it difficult to get local gigs from having spent so many years abroad, he was determined to keep going though, and by promoting himself played events back in Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan and Serbia to name a few. Finding he had more time on his hands it was then he turned his hand to production, after trying out a few projects he hooked up with Jason Heard AKA Juan Kidd and released “Underground” FT Penny Mac on World Sound Recordings.
The here and now:
Finding it hard to get quality gigs that he actually wanted to play he took the time to do his Music Production qualification with Ableton and was offered a residency on Ideal Clubworld, he liked the ethos of the station and having known the director Sacha from having booked artists from Ideal while in Egypt jumped at the chance of getting involved.
He has now been a resident Radio show DJ presenter for Ideal Clubworld since November 2011. His first weekly shows ‘House Nations’ soon gathered momentum and the personal feedback he got from the listeners was overwhelming! He had found his spiritual home.
Working hard behind the scenes he soon became a vital part of the team and is now A&R Director as well as presenting 2 weekly shows on the station on a Friday and Sunday night.
These days Walterwall is a full time DJ and Radio Presenter performing Live for the Ideal Clubworld, undoubtedly the best LIVE Audio Visual Radio station on the worldwide web. Here he continues to build a ever increasing passionate audience that spreads out right across the global underground.
